The Club Rules
Model car racing is a hobby and everybody wants to enjoy themselves. However, the Club has a responsibility to the Landlord and all members must have consideration for local residents and fellow racers. Above all, Model car racing has the potential to be dangerous and for these reasons it is necessary to abide by a set of rules.
Anybody wilfully ignoring these rules may be asked to leave site and the Committee reserve the right to revoke membership if it is felt appropriate.
General:
- Foul, abusive or threatening behaviour anywhere within the site will not be tolerated.
- All drivers and pitmen must have a BRCA membership and only BRCA members are allowed within the track area on race days. You may be required to prove BRCA membership so please have your BRCA card available.
- On non-race days Club members may use the track for practice between the hours of 10:00 am and 7:00 pm (Thursdays 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm). No I.C. engines may be operated before or after these hours.
- Driving model cars within the car parking/pitting area is strictly prohibited.
- You are responsible for your litter, please pick up your rubbish and leave the site clean and tidy.
- Do not clean any car parts in the toilet block sinks. The electric hand dryer in the toilet is not to be used for drying cars, bodyshells or electronics. Please leave the toilet facilities clean and tidy.
- Entry to the track is via the pit gate only. Jumping fences is strictly prohibited.
-
No food, drink, mobile phones or smoking within the confines of the track perimeter fence.
- "Silent" mobile generators/compressors are permitted at AMCC providing:
- They have a noise rating below 59 dB
- They are sited in the grassed car park area behind "The Kiln"
- The owners pit next to their generator (no long extension leads to other parts of the site).
- They are positioned in such a way that they do not cause a nuisance to other competitors.
- I.C. cars are not to be started before the previous race has finished, nor are they to be started in readiness for the next race outside the confines of the track perimeter fence.
- I.C. cars will not be allowed to pit in the small area adjacent to the tea hut and should not be carried through this area with the engine running. They should only be started in the large car park pitting area if absolutely necessary and undue revving of engines should be avoided. Please consider the local residents and your fellow racers.
- On race days the track should not be used for practice between heats. At the race director's discretion the track may be opened for free practice during the interval between heats and finals.
- On race days practising is permitted for electric cars between 9:00 am and 9:45 am. Practice is not permitted after the meeting, the track is closed to all cars after the last final has finished.
Classes:
-
The classes raced at Aldershot are 1/10 scale cars (both electric and I.C.) and 1/5 scale motorbikes. More information on the classes being run can be found on the AMCC website - www.aldershotmodelcarclub.net. Detailed class rules can be found on the BRCA website - www.brca.org. For club racing we don't strictly enforce these rules; we use them as guidelines to ensure fairness. Competitors are expected to abide by the spirit of these rules and refrain from deliberate cheating to gain an advantage. If necessary the club scrutineers will be available to help you.
Racing/Driving/Marshalling:
-
Model car driving is potentially dangerous. Drivers must pay particular attention to the presence of marshals. When marshalling you must consider your safety, do not step on to the track without first checking it is safe to do so. Drivers of I.C. cars must not be "on the throttle" when marshals are handling the car. As a marshal you do not have to retrieve a car that is being revved violently by a frustrated driver. Safety is paramount.
- On race days it is the responsibility of the competitor to carry out their designated marshalling duties. If for any reason they are unable to marshal it is the competitor's responsibility to arrange a stand-in. Failure to marshal may result in a penalty.
- Unless you are using 2.4 GHz you must check that others are not already using your frequency before switching on your transmitter. On race days you must check with the race controller. On practice days please use a peg board or ask others already at the track - don't assume you are the only person using your frequency.
- If, when driving you either crash or have a problem that results in the car being stationary on the track you must warn other drivers on the rostrum.
- During qualifying you are not racing against one another you are racing against the clock. If a car is obviously faster than you, you should move over and allow them to pass.
- During the finals you should try not to obstruct cars that are lapping you.
- Bad driving, T-boning etc. may result in a penalty. Persistent bad driving will result in disqualification.
- The warm up session for I.C. cars is not part of the race. The cars can be warmed up in this session but please try to keep the speed down, avoid spinning off and collisions with other competitors. Failure to abide by these rules may result in a penalty.
- As soon as you cross the line at the end of your race you should drive slowly into the pit area. DO NOT continue for another lap, the next race is waiting to start.
- Starting I.C. Finals: The pit man will place the car on the track when the countdown timer on the display board indicates 0:02. The competitors will not start racing until the multi-bleep start signal is sounded. If the display board is not working, the race director will raise a chequered flag at the 10 second mark and will lower the flag as the countdown reaches 0:02. The pit crew will place the car on the track when the flag is lowered.
- Where a competitor blatantly jumps the start, at the race director's discretion either the race will be re-started and/or the competitor will receive a penalty.
